An ode to old Hollywood glam: my favourite vintage dress

You know what they say: they don’t make ‘um like they used to.

That’s certainly how I feel about this dress – a 1970s vintage number that really ticks all the boxes.

If you’re a regular on my blog, you’ll know that this month I’ve set myself a no buy challenge. As I started to think about sustainable fashion, I decided this was a great time to show some love to my favourite vintage finds from over the years.

I bought this burgundy dress on eBay after stumbling upon it by chance on a vintage seller’s page. I loved it’s nautical vibes and deep burgundy colour.

While it’s technically a 70s vintage item, to me this look is reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood. I don’t think it’s even meant to be a sailor dress (after all, they sure did love a strong collar in the 70s!) but to me I’m instantly reminded of sailor-inspired women’s fashion from the 30s and 40s. That being said, I wasn’t going to pass up a photo opportunity with a classic 70s VW camper!

Now let’s just take a moment to discuss this amazing bag by Anna Smith. I mean, how cool is it?! Never in my life did I think I’d have a use for a clapper board handbag, but there you go. It’s actually a pretty roomy bag, so I reckon it will be more useful than it seems. Or that’s what I’m telling myself.

We took all these photos in wonderful Shoreditch. This area is a blogger’s dream! From amazing graffiti, to little boutiques and photogenic alleyways, this might just be my new favourite photography location. The shot above was taken in a cafe’s window. The staff’s unfazed response when we asked to shoot there says it all really about how popular this area is with bloggers.

I need to wear this dress more. It really makes me feel like a star!

Why not try and embrace the hidden gems in your wardrobe?
